Autumn in the Shop
September started with so much happening. My friend Keith was out with his production crew shooting video for some upcoming clips that I’ll use on this site as well as other sites like Etsy where I show my work. It was two days of surprisingly tiring work, and I wasn’t even doing anything. I was just talking and showing my work. The crew was doing the real work so they must have been feeling it. I’m thankful for their work and looking forward to sharing the videos soon.
Having videos and photos and everything I do to share my work is important because it helps cement the fact that I’m one person, working in my shop, building quality furniture. So many online businesses leave the about page curiously scarce and it leaves us shoppers unsure of who makes the products or where. I think it’s important to remove all doubt. I make them, and purchasing from me is supporting my work here in Washington state, not a factory overseas. It also gives me an avenue to share my processes and the materials and tools I use, somethings that I think my customers will be interested in seeing.
Next up I’ll have to step it up more and do some self-recording on some techniques I use in my work. This will help other woodworkers not encounter the same problems I have. This will likely be posted on YouTube, but maybe I can find a way to make a section on my site for it.
Last, I finally bought an autofocus lens for my Pentax K50 that I use for my product shoots. I was using an old manual focus lens that I bought on eBay because it was cheaper, but after a time I’ve become frustrated with taking 10 pictures trying to nail the focus. I’ve graduated to autofocus land because it will save me time and frustration and because I’m apparently fancy now and decided to afford it.
That's all for now. Isaac
