Moving to Portland, OR
I’m moving and taking the business to Portland, OR.
I’ve been in the Bellingham area for a long time, and this move isn’t business driven, but in the interest of moving closer to extended family. This move means lots of work both in my personal life and for moving the business. For Modern Ethic I have to:
Pause the business so I don’t receive orders to fill while I move.
Carefully package all of the built furniture into boxes to protect them during the move.
Pack up the shop tools into a moving truck and CNC onto a trailer and move everything to a storage unit temporarily.
Find another suitable space to lease in Portland. This time I’m going to try to find a space that’s shared with other builders and artists so that I don’t work alone as often.
Move everything to the new space, set it all up, test and calibrate the CNC equipment to ensure the move didn’t disturb the calibration.
Do all the business paperwork to change my business from a WA business to an OR business.
Start producing pieces again and reestablish my presence on marketplace sites like Etsy.
Something I’m expecting from the Portland move is the opportunity to do more local sales. I have recently began pushing more into cabinet and kitchen fabrication and having a large metro area local to me should be really helpful to this side of the business.
So that’s what’s happening. Wish me the best and I look forward to sharing more from my new location in the fall.
